Knitting Ministry

The Christ Lutheran Church Knitting Ministry has been providing spiritual and physical comfort to those in need since 2004.  The mission of our group is to use our hands as instruments of God’s grace to carry out His works of mercy and love.  Individuals make prayer shawls, tiny baby hats and prayer squares. 

We pray each time we work on our projects that the items our hands create bring blessings to those who receive them.

Prayer shawls are either knitted or crocheted using a bulky yarn in a variety of colors.  Each prayer shawl is packaged with a prayer of comfort and healing.  These shawls are given to cancer patients at University Hospital to use while receiving chemotherapy.  They can be draped over shoulders or over a lap to provide warmth and comfort.  We also give them to Prince of Peace Church in downtown Cincinnati that ministers to the homeless and downtrodden.  Lastly, shawls are available for members of the congregation to give to a friend or loved one who is recovering from illness, surgery, or a traumatic life event.

Tiny baby hats knitted in pastel colors are given to the neonatal unit at University Hospital for premature and stillborn babies.  

Prayer squares are crocheted in a variety of colors.  They come with a prayer of God’s presence and love; and are small enough to fit in your pocket or handbag.  These are available for anyone to keep for themselves or to give to someone in need of the reassurance of God’s love and presence.

The group meets on the 4th Wednesday of the month (excluding November and December) at 1:00pm in the church library.  Anyone who is interested in knitting or crocheting is welcome to participate. The patterns are very simple and can be easily taught. There is help available for those who need it. Beginners, experts and all those in-between are encouraged to come.  

Meetings are not a requirement for participation. Anyone can pick up yarn at church and work at home, bringing in completed projects whenever they are ready. It is fun and worthwhile!
